Blue Devil fall to Eau Claire in first WIAC contest

EAU CLAIRE  (December 6, 2008) - UW-Stout had a 20-17 lead midway through the first half, but fell, 77-61, to UW-Eau Claire, Saturday afternoon, at Zorn Arena.

After falling to a six-point deficit, Stout surged back with a 9-0 run, taking a three point lead, their largest of the day. An 11-4 run in favor of Eau Claire took the teams to the locker rooms separated by a score of 35-29.  

The Blugolds went on a 17-7 run early in the second half, giving them a 16-point lead, but did not keep it for long. Down 54-38, Stout went on a 14-0 run, keyed by three-for-three shooting from beyond the arc by Jerrod Buchholtz (So, Durand), who ended the game with a team-high 15 points.  

Eau Claire stopped the Blue Devils' surge, and extended their lead back to 16 points by the end of the game, handing Stout a loss in their first WIAC meeting of the year.  

Isaiah Farrar (Jr, St. Paul, Minn.), who pulled down a team-high seven boards, was one of three Stout players to score 10 points.  

Senior Dan Beyer and sophomore Ryan Shay lead the way for the Blugolds, each pulling down nine rebounds and scoring 16 and 21 points, respectively.

Stout is back in action this Wednesday, Dec. 10 when they travel to UW-River Falls for a 7 p.m. game.
