EAU CLAIRE (November 4, 2008) - The UW-Stout volleyball team's season came to an end, but the Blue Devils went down swinging in a 3-0 loss at UW-Eau Claire in the quarterfinals of the WIAC Tournament Tuesday at McPhee Center.
After falling 25-11, 25-15 in the first two games, Stout scratched and clawed their way in the final game, a 25-23 loss. The Blue Devils (5-25) ran out to a 23-22 lead, but the top-seeded Blugolds scored the final three points to take a 25-22 win. The Blugolds advance to the semi-final round Friday, Nov. 7, which they will host.
Stout's Maggie Meixl (Sr, Mankato, Minn), playing in her final collegiate match, led all players with eight kills. Jenna Swanson (Jr, Hayfield, Minn) had six kills. Eau Claire (22-10) was led by Emily Zupon with seven kills.
