MENOMONIE (October 28, 2008) - It was a defensive struggle all evening for both teams, but Hamline University scored late in the game to defeat UW-Stout, 1-0, Tuesday at Nelson Field.
With much of the play going on between the two 18's throughout the evening, the Pipers (7-10-0) broke onto the scoreboard in the 85th minute when Mallory Koula sent a shot across the net to the opposite corner for the win.
Hamline outshot Stout, 18-13, on the evening. The Blue Devils' (6-10-3) Taylor Randle (Fr, Shoreview, Minn) recorded nine saves, while her counterpart, Katherine Gardner, notched 10 saves.
Stout will move into conference tournament play this weekend when they will be at UW-La Crosse, Saturday, Nov. 1 in the quarterfinals of the WIAC tournament. The winner will advance to play in the semi-final game of the tournament, Friday, Nov. 6 at the site of the highest remaining seeded team.
