MENOMONIE (October 19, 2008) - UW-Stout lost their first home game of the season as St. Benedict carried a 3-2 win out of Nelson Field Sunday.
The Blazers (12-4-0) were also the first opponent to score at Nelson Field this year as Stout (5-9-3) was carrying a 2008 scoreless streak of four games.
Stout got on the board first when Ali Sonsteby (So, Clearwater, Minn) scored in the seventh minute of the game.
St. Ben answered back in the 30th minute after Annie Haws scored on a penalty kick, then took a 2-1 lead in the final minute of the first half on a shot by Samantha Vanderlinde, a shot she caromed off the post into the net.
It only took a little more than a minute into the second half for Stout to score the game. Kaitlin Arjes (So, Owatonna, Minn) launched a penalty kick low and the right of the Blazer goalie.
The Blazers took the win in the 72nd minute on a goal by Kelly Suter.
Stout's Jessica Halverson (Sr, Delano, Minn) tallied 10 saves, while Blazer goalie Shannon Strohm had four saves. Overall, St. Benedict outshot Stout, 25-10.
Stout will host St. Mary's University, Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. and Hamline University, Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
