MENOMONIE (October 18, 2008) - All five sets were close, but UW-Stout still came out on the short end as the Blue Devils lost, 3-2, to visiting UW-La Crosse, Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Blue Devils (4-17, 1-6) won the first set, 25-22, but La Crosse (21-7, 6-2) came back to take the next two sets, 25-23, 25-22. The Blue Devils won set four, 25-22, but the Eagles built too big an advantage for Stout to overcome in the fifth and deciding set as La Crosse carried the match with a 15-12 decision.
Stout's Maggie Meixl (Sr, Mankato, Minn) led all players with 19 kills. She also had three solo blocks and five block assists. Jenna Swanson (Jr, Hayfield, Minn) and Jamie Olson (Fr, Andover, Minn) each had 13 kills and Steph Nichols (So, Greendale) had 10 kills.
The Eagles got 17 kills from Brianne Stankus, 15 from Amber Schoonover and 13 from Nina Walch.
Stout will close out their home schedule Wednesday, Oct. 22 when they host UW-River Falls at 7 pm.
