More than 20 years after stealing her last base, Suzanne (Brion) Crotteau still holds all UW-Stout base stealing records. Brion was 5-for-5 against Westminster College in 1996, the same season she stole an amazing 46-of-50 bases. She led off the 1996 season by stealing 31 consecutive bases. Brion finished her career with 93 stolen bases in 100 attempts.
With a school record career batting average of .444, Brion reached base 220 times and successfully stole a base every 2.4 times. A two-time All-American (third team, 1996; second team 1995), two-time all-region, two-time all-WWIAC and the WWIAC Player of the Year in 1996, Brion was the team’s starting shortstop and lead-off hitter over her three seasons from 1994-96.
Upon her graduation, in addition to the three stolen base records, Brion owned single season records for batting average (.500), at-bats (166), runs scored (47), hits (77), home runs (4) and slugging percentage (.727). Several of her career records have been surpassed, but Brion ranks second in runs scored (131), and hits (187), is third in triples (12), fourth in slugging percentage (.623), sixth in doubles (32) and 11th in home runs (6). Brion was the first Blue Devil to hit four home runs in a single season. Brion was selected to the WIAC all-time softball team.
