2021 UW-Stout gymnastics team awards announced


MENOMONIE (July 19, 2021) - Freshman Kiara Bruening (Sedona, Ariz/Red Rock) was selected as the UW-Stout gymnastics team's most valuable performer when the team's 2021 awards were given out earlier this spring. Genevieve Czaplewski (Fr, Grand Island, Neb), Kiara Brown (Fr, Whitewood, S.D.) and Maddie Mullenbach (Sr, Austin, Minn) also received team awards.

Bruening, a first team All-WIAC selection, completed her first collegiate season in 2021, competing in three meets as an all-arounder, improving on her all-around score in every meet.  Bruening started off with a 36.525 in the opener at Gustavus Adolphus, jumped that score to a 37.250 against UW-Whitewater, then closed out her all-around season with a 37.450 against Hamline University.  Bruening averaged a 37.075 in the all-around, a 9.467 on the vault, 9.050 on the uneven bars, 9.181 on the balance beam and a 9.158 on the floor exercise. Bruening was sixth on the WIAC Honor Roll in the all-around and was a Top 10 performer on the vault and the balance beam.

Czaplewski, who received the most improved performer award, competed on the uneven bars, the balance beam and the floor exercise in all four meets, finishing with a season-high 8.525 on the bars, a 9.450 on the beam and a 9.225 on the floor exercise. 

Brown, who received the team Spunk Award, competed in all four meets and competed in all-around in the final two meets of the season. Brown scored a season high 9.350 on the vault, a 9.200 on the uneven bars, a 9.200 on the balance beam and a 9.500 on the floor exercise. Brown tallied a 36.050 in the all-around in the final meet of the season.

Mullenbach closed out her four year career by competing on three events - the floor, the beam and the floor. Mullenbach, who received the team's Hardest Worker Award, was selected as the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete and was named to the conference's all-sportsmanship team. A 2021 team captain, Mullenbach competed in at least one event in every varsity meet throughout her four-year career and was named the team's hardest worker in three seasons.
